8847 Rare Edward V11 Oak Post Letters Box
C 1901
£1250 inc. VAT
Very few of this design of post box were made after the reign of Queen Victoria, and this is truly a rare collector's piece, manufactured of solid oak with a slanted top bearing a heavy brass plate, deeply incised with the royal crown in black between the letters E & R and the words Letter Box in red. The door has two windows, the upper showing the original ceramic slate for displaying collection times, and the lower glazed to reveal the post to be taken to the post office.
The Bramah lock retains its original key.
Inside the door the retailers ivory label bears the words ARMY & NAVY CSL (Civil Service Ltd), makers.
Provenance: Lakenham Old Hall. Please see typed note inside the rear of the box.
